Measures 8″ x 4.25”. These were ‘Payable in Gold or Silver or Bills of Credit?’ Each of these bonds was typically carried in a soldier’s wallet for several years and will show some wear.
The state was simply unable to pay solders in full during the wars financially difficult times. Interest was paid and noted on the back for 6 to 8 years. Each bond is signed by John Lawrence. Treasurer of the State.
